About

Atkins Elementary is a PreK through fifth grade school located in the Cedar Grove neighborhood in South Shreveport. We are starting year four of being part of the 14 schools in theTransformation Zone. The purpose of the Transformation Zone is to create sustainable, high performing schools enveloped in communities of support that produce students who are consistently at or above grade level, college and career ready, and living out their potential. When we achieve this, we will save lives and our city will be seen as a model of success and innovation where all children, regardless of circumstance, achieve! We believe together that we can turn this school around. We are excited about the upcoming 2017-2018 school year with our new leader Mrs. Belinda Stewart. Mrs. Stewart was the vice principal at Caddo Heights Elementary before coming to Atkins.

Outside the Box

We believe in "Outside the Box" instruction.  On a normal day, you can find students singing, drumming, rapping, and even standing on their chairs to celebrate success. Our entire campus was given a "face lift" during the summer of 2014 with the help of faculty, staff, and numerous community sponsors. Classrooms were transformed by the classroom teachers at their own expense.  We have themes such as superheros, sports, jungle, and many more.  We take pride in setting the environment to welcome the students daily.

Atkins is an official TAP school

This year, we will begin our new Caddo wide TAP program. Caddo Parish Public Schools has been awarded a $4.5 million School Improvement Grant (SIG) to take school turnaround efforts at struggling schools to the next level. As an official TAP school, we will fully implement the nationally recognized Teacher Advancement Program (TAP). Operated by the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching, the TAP model seeks to provide the highest quality classroom instruction through intensive and structured supports for teachers at each campus.

Testimonial

"Previous year (2013-2014) I was ashamed to tell anyone my kids went to Atkins.  Now, I am proud to say they go there."
